General features

MSERV-4s module is a new version of the Ampio SmartHome system’s IP gateway. The module has been improved with multiple new functionalities, compared to its predecessor. It enables remote control over the system via a native mobile application on an Android or iOS tablet or smart phone.

The module is equipped with 10 relay outputs with separated contacts, thanks to which one can connect devices with various voltage supply values to the module.

Outputs are set to “no function”, so their parameters can be changed to a relay output mode or set to perform a roller blinds control functionality.

The device has 14 inputs, which allows us to connect e.g. standard connectors, or other devices with floating contacts. Additionally, the first 8 inputs (IN1-IN8) are made in such a way that they can serve as 0-24V measurement inputs.

Up to 6 Dallas DS18B20 temperature sensors can be connected to MSERV-4s (1-Wire output). The results from the temperature sensor can be used freely to perform certain actions, e.g. to switch pumps, valves, or lights on/off, to display the results on Ampio touch panels, or in order to control the heating system in the house.

The open-collector outputs (OC1-OC4) provide the functionality of, e.g. regulating the brightness of popular LED or halogen lights, or RGB light strips.

The device has an OLED screen in the front of its casing and one sensor field. This allows one to check the basic parameters of the whole system, or MSERV-4s itself, e.g. its IP adress.

Moreover, the device has 15 control lights indicating the status of relay and OC outputs, and the CAN-bus line status.

In order to improve the reliability of our SmartHome system, we have equipped the MSERV-4s module with a redundant power supply port (VIN1, VIN2), which can connect two bus power supplies.

The new version of the MSERV module has an RS232 communication port, which makes integration with various externally manufactured devices with an RS232 port possible, e.g. projectors, TVs. In its basic version, the interface has the functionality of one-way communication, just like the basic MCON232 UNI-ONEWAY software.

The MLED (OWA) port enables the MLED module functionalities. Exactly as it is the case with the module, one can connect up to 16 Ampio LED lights or other manufacturers’ light sources via converters. The bus allows the lights to be individually controlled.

The MSERV-4s module has an MRT functionality as well, which means that one can control the heating system according to a certain schedule or time. The basic version of the software includes one 1-zone driver, with the option to extend it to 32 zones. The device communicates real time in the CAN network.

Typical application

Temperature control in each room and remote control of devices or advanced lighting are only a few examples of the many functionalities available with MSERV-4s. Also, the module opens up a world of integration possibilities thanks to the IP technology.


The module is to be installed in an electric switchboard. It takes space of 9 regular DIM modules. We suggest that it is installed on the right side of the switchboard, as it needs a UTP cable connected, which happens on the right side of the casing.

The following cables should be connected to the module:

  • Ampio SmartHome CAN transmission wires
  • UTP Ethernet (twisted-pair) cable to connect the module to the Internet
  • *optional – output control wires
  • *optional – input control wires
